Deshamanya Mr. B. D. R. Rajan (Suri) is the youngest son of the late P. T. Rajan, who played a pivotal role in the educational development of Indian Tamils in Sri Lanka’s Central Province. Coming from a family with a strong tradition of philanthropy, Mr. Rajan received his education at Trinity College Kandy.
Following in the footsteps of his elder brother, the late T. R. R. Rajan, founder of the Sun and Asoka Group of Companies, Mr. Rajan joined the family business and played a key role in its expansion. Today, Sun Match Company (Pvt) Ltd is the market leader in Sri Lanka’s safety match industry, producing matches under the well-known Soorya brand.
Under his leadership, the group has diversified into several sectors including haulage, FMCG distribution, real estate and education. Mr. Rajan currently serves as the Chairman and Managing Director of the Sun and Asoka Group, overseeing more than 1,200 employees. In recognition of its excellence, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Central Province Sri Lanka awarded the Gold Award in the Extra Large Service Sector in 2002 to the Sun Match Co., (Pvt) Limited.
Mr. Rajan is also an All-Island Justice of the Peace and actively contributes to social service initiatives. He serves as a Board Member of the Centre for Handicapped Kandy (CFH), an organization that provides free prosthetic, orthotic, and rehabilitation services to physically disabled individuals across Sri Lanka.
Over the years, he has held several leadership roles, including Board Member of the Central Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry and currently serves as the President of the Sri Lanka–India Cultural Association.
In 2009–2010, Mr. Rajan was elected District Governor of Rotary International in Sri Lanka, one of the organization’s most prestigious leadership positions. During his tenure, he implemented humanitarian projects worth over US$1 million, focusing on economic development, water and sanitation, women’s empowerment, peace and conflict resolution, and literacy programs that benefited underprivileged communities across the country.
He was the first Sri Lankan to be recognized as an Arch Klumph Society Member by Rotary International in recognition of his generous contribution of over US$250,000 towards humanitarian causes worldwide. Mr. Rajan is also a recipient of Rotary International’s highest honor, the “Service Above Self” Award, presented to a select group of 150 outstanding individuals chosen from more than 1.3 million Rotarians globally.
Most recently, he was recognized by Women in Management Sri Lanka (WIM) and International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, as one of the Top 10 Champions of Diversity for his exceptional leadership as a humanitarian and his commitment to diversity and inclusion in the corporate sector.

I am proud to represent XDAO EV Sri Lanka as Head of Sales. I have recently joined the organization, bringing over 25 years of experience in Sales and Business Development. My career spans multiple industries, including Telecommunications, Digital Health, Information Technology, and Retail Business, where I have worked with several of Sri Lanka’s leading organizations. Across these sectors, I have consistently delivered strong sales performance, expanded market presence, and developed successful go-to-market strategies.
My professional strengths include strategic sales planning, communication, negotiation, and leadership, along with a proven ability to build long-term relationships with customers, partners, and channel networks. I am pleased to be part of XDAO EV Sri Lanka and to contribute my experience toward strengthening the brand’s presence in the local electric vehicle market.
